Schwan Scholarship Program
Application status: Closed

The Schwan Scholarship Program provides up to 40 scholarships each year to children of employees of subsidiaries of Schwan’s Company. Schwan’s Corporate Giving Foundation places great value in promoting youth education and leadership development. This program reflects those values and encourages young people to achieve academically and pursue their dreams.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability, or national origin.

Applicants to the Schwan Scholarship Program must be:

  • Dependent children* of full-time (30 hours or more per week) U.S. employees of the subsidiaries of Schwan’s Company, who have a minimum of six months employment with the respective company as of the application deadline date.
    *Dependent children are defined as natural and legally adopted children or stepchildren living in the employee’s household or primarily supported by the employee.
  • High school seniors or graduates, or current postsecondary undergraduates, who plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.

The following groups are ineligible to apply to the Schwan Scholarship Program:

  • Children of members of the board of directors of Schwan’s Corporate Giving Foundation;
  • Children of employees who have the title of “vice president,” or (its equivalent) and above;
  • Children of employees who are officers of subsidiaries of Schwan’s Company.

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award of either $1,000 or $2,500. Up to forty (40) awards will be granted.

Financial need will be considered in determining the amount of the award. Potential recipients who demonstrate financial need will receive a $2,500 renewable award. Potential recipients who demonstrate no financial need will be eligible to receive a one-time honorarium of $1,000.

$2,500 awards may be renewed for up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance in a full-time course of study and continuation of the program by Schwan’s Corporate Giving Foundation.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Schwan’s Corporate Giving Foundation. Payments are made in August and December.

Selection of Recipients
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation

Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does an officer or employee of Schwan’s Company or board member or employee of Schwan’s Corporate Giving Foundation play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.
