Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories Scholarship Program

The Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories scholarship program is open to current undergraduates attending eligible colleges and universities in the upcoming academic year and pursuing select science and engineering degrees.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories Scholarship Program must:

    • Be current college undergraduates planning to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an eligible college for the entire upcoming academic year

  • Washington State University
  • University of Idaho
  • Montana Technological University
  • Purdue University
  • Michigan Technological University
  • Boise State University
  • Richmond Community College
  • Drexel University
  • University of North Carolina at Charlotte
  • Georgia Institute of Technology
  • Gonzaga University
  • Mississippi State University
  • Idaho State University (Only Robotics and Communications Systems Engineering Technology, 3-year program)
  • Lewis Clark State College (Only Electrical Engineering Technology majors, 2-year program)
  • Whitworth University (Only Engineering majors)
  • Be majoring in one of the following fields:
    • Computer Engineering
    • Computer Science
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Engineering (Whitworth University attendees only)
    • Electrical Engineering Technology (Lewis Clark State College attendees only)
    • Robotics and Communications Systems Engineering Technology (Idaho State University attendees only)
    • Electric Utility Substation and Relay Technology (Richmond Community College attendees only)

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award ranging from $2,500 to $5,000. Up to 14 awards will be granted.

Awards are not renewable, but students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Out of the 14 awards, four will be reserved for historically underrepresented students, including those who identify as Black, African American, Hispanic, or Latino.

Preference will be given to students with one or two academic years remaining before graduation.

Recipients may be offered mentoring opportunities by the Sponsor.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of career and educational goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation

Financial need is not considered.

Selection of finalists is made by Scholarship America. Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories will select recipients. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in April.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories. Payment is made in early August.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
    • Student name
    • School name
    • Grades
    • Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than January 27, 2025 3:00 pm Central Time.
