Structured Finance Foundation Scholarship Program

The Structured Finance Foundation has established a scholarship program to assist active participants in one of Mentor Foundation USA’s programs who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability, or national origin.

Eligibility
Applicants to the Structured Finance Foundation Scholarship Program must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Be a high school senior participating in a Mentor Foundation USA program at one of the following eligible high schools:
    • Glen Burnie High School, Anne Arundel County, MD
    • North County High School, Anne Arundel County, MD
    • Northeast High School, Anne Arundel County, MD
    • Old Mill High School, Anne Arundel County, MD
  • Be an active participant in one of Mentor Foundation USA’s Programs – Career Mentoring Program and Youth Ambassador (Living the Example.) Click here for details on the programs.
  • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school for the entire 2020-2021 academic year.
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or the equivalent.

Children of officers of Structured Finance Foundation and Mentor Foundation USA are ineligible to apply.

Awards

Awards of $10,000 each will be granted for four-year studies, and awards of $5,000 each will be granted for two-year or vocational technical studies.

The awards may be renewable, with award amounts subject to review, for up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first.  Renewal is contingent upon maintaining satisfactory academic performance (a grade point average of 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, or the equivalent) in a full-time course of study, continuation of the program by SFIG Foundation, and the following criteria:

  • Engagement with Mentor Foundation USA via pre-determined social media platform
  • Participation in one of Mentor Foundation USA’s pre-recorded webinar per semester
  • Participation in one opportunity per academic year engaging with Mentor Foundation USA programming (i.e., speaking to students currently in our program, video contest, providing feedback and program ideas, etc.)

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Selection of Recipients

Recipients will be selected from a pool of qualified applicants with consideration given to those who demonstrate the greatest financial need.

Selection criteria will include the consideration of academic performance, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, including active participation in the Mentor Foundation USA’s Career Mentoring or Youth Ambassador programs, work experience, a statement of career and educational goals and objectives, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an online recommendation from an adult not related to the applicant.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Structured Finance Foundation or Mentor Foundation USA play a part in the selection.  Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.  All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Notification
All applicants will be notified in May.

Payment of Scholarships
Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Structured Finance Foundation.

Payment for recipients in two-year or vocational technical studies are made in one installment on August 1. Payment for recipients in four-year studies are made in two equal installments on August 1 and December 15.

Revisions
Structured Finance Foundation reserves the right to review the conditions and procedures of this scholarship program and to make changes at any time including termination of the program.

As part of your application, you must upload the following documents:

  1. A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course, and term in which each course was taken.
  2. A completed Mentor Foundation USA Program Confirmation Form.

One online recommendation must also be submitted on your behalf.

Your application is not considered complete unless all required documents are submitted electronically.
