The James E. Donlan Memorial Scholarship Program

Sinto America established The James E. Donlan Memorial Scholarship Program to assist dependents of employees who plan to continue their education in college pursuing a degree in the Mathematics, Science, Business, or Engineering fields. Scholarships are offered each year for full-time study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to The James E. Donlan Memorial Scholarship Program must:

  • Be dependent* children, age 25 and under, of full-time Sinto America employees who are in good standing with the company at the time of sponsor selection of recipients.
    *Dependent children are defined as biological, step- or legally adopted children living in the employee’s household or primarily supported by the employee.
  • Be a graduating high school senior or graduate, or current undergraduate.
  • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited four-year college for the entire upcoming academic year.
  • Preference to those who plan to pursue a degree in Mathematics, Science, Business, or Engineering.

Awards

The authorized distribution for new awards is $10,000. The number of awards is determined annually by the sponsor. Awards are not renewable, but students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in July.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Sinto America. Payment is made in late July.

Selection of Finalist

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances

Applicants are required to submit an essay (850-1150 words) discussing one of the following topics:

  • The Importance of Manufacturing in America
  • Technology… Is It Good or Bad?
  • Which is more important in a company, talent or integrity?

The essay will be evaluated by the Sponsor’s selection committee only.

Applicants will provide three email addresses for recommenders (coach, teacher, academic advisor, boss/manager, or leader of an extracurricular activity). Recommenders will upload their letter of recommendation. The letters of recommendation cannot come from a family member or peer. Letters will be evaluated by Sponsor’s selection committee only.

Financial need is not considered.

Scholarship America will select finalists, and recipient selection will be determined by Sinto America from the pool of finalists. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.


As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

Three online recommendation forms with uploaded Letters of Recommendation must be submitted on your behalf no later than June 4, 2024 3:00 pm Central Time.
