SMART Local 265 Labor Management Cooperation Committee Scholarship Program
Application status: Closed

The SMART Local 265 Labor Management Cooperative (SMART Local 265 LMCC) has established a scholarship program to assist members, their spouses, and their children who plan to continue their education in college. Scholarships are offered each year for full-time study at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university of the student’s choice.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance, and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team. Awards for this scholarship are granted to eligible recipients without regard to creed, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or national origin.

Applicants to the SMART Local 265 Labor Management Cooperation Committee Scholarship Program must:

  • Be a member in good standing of SMART Local 265, or the legal spouse of such a member, or a dependent child (as defined by IRS rules) up to age 26 of such a member.
  • Be a high school senior, a high school graduate (or have received a GED diploma), or a current postsecondary undergraduate with a minimum 2.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent.
  • Be accepted and plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university.
  • Be a United States citizen.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, a statement of goals and aspirations, unusual personal or family circumstances, an online recommendation, and an essay*. The essay will be heavily weighted.

Financial need is not considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of SMART Local 265 LMCC play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

*Essay Topic
Everyone loves a good underdog story. For this year’s essay, the committee wants to hear how instead of giving up, you rose to the occasion or at least learned what was necessary to achieve success. That being said, describe a time where you demonstrated leadership and overcame an obstacle either in your school, social, work, or family life.

Awards

Recipients will receive a $4,000 award. Up to five (5) awards will be granted each year. Awards are not renewable; however, students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in June.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of SMART Local 265 LMCC. Payment is made in early August.
