Laura M. Smedley Scholarship Fund

PNC Bank, N.A. offers the Laura M. Smedley Scholarship Fund to recognize residents of Venango County, PA who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team. Awards for this scholarship are granted to eligible recipients without regard to creed, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or national origin.

Applicants to the Laura M. Smedley Scholarship Fund must:

  • Be residents of Venango County OR are graduates of high schools situated in Venango County.
  • Are planning to attend or are attending accredited colleges/universities to obtain a two-year degree (not post-graduate studies) including the first two years of nursing educational courses at Clarion University, OR are planning to attend or are attending a four-year degree program at an accredited college/university in courses leading to a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Plan to enroll full-time in undergraduate study for the entire upcoming academic year as a freshman or sophomore.
  • Have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

PNC Employees, children of PNC employees or Trust committee members are ineligible.

Awards

Award amounts are determined by the selection committee. Awards shall be made upon the basis of scholastic aptitude and, primarily, financial need.

Awards are not renewable, but students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Awards are for freshmen or sophomores in undergraduate study only.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in August.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of PNC Bank, N.A.. Payment is made in mid-September.

Selection of Recipients

The scholarships are selected by a committee of at least three members appointed by the Board of Directors of the Bank, the Trustee or the committee appointed by the same to determine the distribution of income of discretionary charitable trust.

Financial need will be considered in the selection process. Recipients must demonstrate financial need.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.
  • Complete Student Aid Report (SAR) from your most recent FAFSA filing. Report must include the applicant’s first and last name, academic year and the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) amount.
  • Copy of your college/university’s Financial Aid Award Letter.
  • Documentation of school cost.

    NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.
