SoCalGas has established a scholarship program to assist current high school seniors and current undergraduates in select Southern California counties who plan to continue their education in college pursuing a STEM, Business Administration, or trades-related field of study at an accredited 2-year college.
The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance, and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.
Applicants to the SoCalGas Community College and Trades Scholarship Program must:

SoCalGas or any other Sempra Energy company employees, elected officials and employee’s children/grandchildren, and children of retired employees are not eligible to apply.
If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $1,000 award. Up to 15 awards will be granted.
Assuming there are qualified applicants, at least 85% of awards will be awarded to underrepresented* students who plan to attend a two-year college, university located in the state of California and at least 50% of awards will be awarded applicants who self-identify as female.

Awards are not renewable. However, past recipients are eligible to reapply. Recipients are eligible to receive the award a maximum of 2 years or until a degree is earned (whichever occurs first).
Awards are for undergraduate study only.
Recipients may be contacted for other opportunities with SoCalGas and will be invited to a recipients’ event in June 2022.
Awards are to be used for education related expenses; tuition, fees, books, supplies/tools and materials.
Recipients may not receive an award from any other SoCalGas scholarship in the same academic year.
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, a statement of educational and career goals and objectives related to field of study, unusual personal or family circumstances, an online recommendation, and an essay*.

Financial need, as calculated by Scholarship America, will be considered and must be demonstrated for the student to receive an award.
Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of SoCalGas play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.
All applicants will be notified in May.
Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of SoCalGas. Payment is made in early August.

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.
One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than April 7, 2022 1:00 pm Pacific Time.
