As a tribute to Walter Wiest for his 36 years of contributions to the organization’s success, Sub-Zero Group Inc. established a scholarship program to assist employees’ children who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs. Four (4) renewable scholarships will be offered each year for full-time study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice.
As a tribute to Glenn Dillard for his contributions to the organization relative to safety, environmental health, and employee training, the company established one (1) additional scholarship in 2013.
Ed Murphy, who retired as the company’s Vice President of Finance at the end of 2015, has offered to provide funding for one (1) additional scholarship starting in 2016.
Steve Dunlap was employed by Sub-Zero for 25 years and retired as the company’s Vice President of Sales in 2016. He will be funding one (1) additional scholarship starting in 2017.
This scholarship program is administered by Scholarship America®. Scholarship America is the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship and tuition reimbursement programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, age, gender, disability or national origin.
Applicants to the The Walter Wiest/Glenn Dillard/Ed Murphy/Steven Dunlap Scholarship Program must be:
Up to four (4) Walter Wiest awards of $1,000 will be granted each year. One (1) Glenn Dillard award of $1,000 will be granted each year. One (1) Ed Murphy award of $1,000 will be granted each year. One (1) Steve Dunlap award of $1,000 will be granted each year. Awards may be renewed for up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance in a full-time course of study, continued employment of the student’s parent at Sub-Zero Group Inc./Sub-Zero Inc./ Sub-Zero Group Affiliated Distributors/Wolf Appliance Inc., and continuation of the program by Sub-Zero Group Inc./Sub-Zero Inc./ Sub-Zero Group Affiliated Distributors/Wolf Appliance Inc.
Awards are for undergraduate study only.
All applicants will be notified in mid-May.
Scholarship America processes Walter Wiest/Glenn Dillard/Ed Murphy/Steve Dunlap scholarship payments on behalf of Sub-Zero Group Inc./Sub-Zero Inc./ Sub-Zero Group Affiliated Distributors/Wolf Appliance Inc. Payments are made in one installment in mid-August. Checks are mailed to each recipient’s home address and are made payable to the school for the student.
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, a statement of educational and career goals and objectives, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an online recommendation.
Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Sub-Zero Group Inc./Sub-Zero Inc./ Sub-Zero Group Affiliated Distributors/Wolf Appliance Inc. play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.
