Suddath, Bell, and Vaughn Scholarships
Application status: Closed

The Suddath Companies has established a scholarship program to assist children of employees and independent contractors who plan to continue their education in college.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the Suddath, Bell, and Vaughn Scholarships must be:

  • Natural, legally adopted children, or stepchildren, age 25 and under, of either a U.S. or international employee of The Suddath Companies or a qualified independent contractor. The employee or independent contractor must have a start date on or before October 1, 2023.
  • Either current high school seniors or high school graduates who have not previously enrolled or attended any college or university.
  • Planning to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college or university for the entire upcoming academic year.

Children of deceased employees (full-time employees or independent contractors at the time of death) are also eligible to apply.

One (1) recipient will be selected for each of the following named awards:

  • A. Quinn Bell Scholarship
  • Richard H. Suddath Scholarship
  • Barry S. Vaughn Scholarship

All three (3) awards have the following parameters:

  • If attending a 4-year college or university students will receive up to a $12,000 award per academic year; students attending a 2-year college will receive up to a $5,000 award per academic year.
  • Awards are renewable up to three (3) additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first, on the basis of maintaining full-time enrollment status and a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above on a 4.0 scale, and continued parental employment.

Awards must be used for tuition, fees, books, and basic supplies only.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic performance record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • Statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Two letters of recommendation

Notification

Applicants will be notified in April. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.

Financial need will not be considered.

Scholarship America will select finalists and a committee appointed by The Suddath Companies will select recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.
