Synchrony Scholarship Program
Application status: Closed

Synchrony has established a scholarship program to assist dependent children of employees who plan to continue their education in college, university or vocational-technical school programs.  Scholarships are offered each year for full-time study at an accredited or bona-fide institution of the student’s choice.

Please note: We ask that the dependent child, not the parent, complete the scholarship application.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the Synchrony Scholarship Program must be:

  • Dependent children* of full-time Synchrony domestic and international active, retired or deceased employees at Level 14 and below in the United States, India and the Philippines, who have a minimum of one year employment with the company as of the application deadline date.
*Dependent children are defined as biological, step- or adopted children living in the employee’s household or primarily supported by the employee; OR another child who lives permanently with an eligible employee, depends solely on the employee for support, and for whom the employee or his/her spouse is the court-appointed permanent guardian. Other dependents of employees, including spouses, are not eligible.
  • Current high school/secondary school seniors or the equivalent or graduates who plan to enroll or students who are already enrolled in a full-time undergraduate course of study.
  • Planning to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited or bona-fide college, university or vocational-technical school for the entire 2024-25 academic year.

Children of senior executive employees and company officers are ineligible. Children and family members of Board members and Officers of Synchrony Foundation are ineligible.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Synchrony. Payment is made in one installment in August via check, or wire transfer depending on student location.

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • Statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances

Financial need is not considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or associate of Synchrony play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

As part of your application, you must upload the following document:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those placement test scores are not required.

Your application is not complete unless all required documents are submitted electronically through the Scholarship America Student Hub.
