Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited is not involved in the decision making process.

Applicants to the Education Advantage University Scholarship Program must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Be diagnosed with hemophilia A or B, including those with inhibitors (Factor VII or IX deficiency), or von Willebrand Disease.
  • Be a citizen or legal and permanent resident of the United States.

  • Be a lawful citizen (must not have had a felony conviction).

Applicants may only apply for an award from one program per year.

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $5,000 award. Awards may be renewed for up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance in a full-time course of study, proof of an annual visit to a comprehensive clinic and continuation of the program by Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited.

Renewal may be extended beyond three years in the event that a student requires an additional year of study to complete a full-time course load or in the event that health problems or other exceptional circumstances result in a longer than traditional length of study.

Awards are for undergraduate study only and may be used for tuition, fees, books and supplies only.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of the following:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • Personal statement
  • Verification of diagnosis
  • Two online recommendations (one academic, one community)

Financial need is not considered. Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Applicants will be notified in mid August. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students not selected as recipients may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.
