TimkenSteel Charitable Fund Scholarship Program

TimkenSteel Charitable Fund encourages children of TimkenSteel Corporation employees to pursue higher education. The scholarship program is designed to assist the highest achieving among them who plan to continue their education in a 4-year college or university with the intent of earning a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent. Up to four generous scholarships are awarded each year to students for full-time study at an accredited institution of their choice.

TimkenSteel contracts with Scholarship America to administer this scholarship program to ensure decisions are made by a third party experienced in assessing applications. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, age, gender, disability or national origin.

  • Eligible students must be dependent* children of TimkenSteel Corporation** employees (active, retired, deceased or recently laid off)
    • TimkenSteel employees include full-time employees with at least one year of employment with the corporation by October 10, 2019, and part-time employees with either at least two years of part-time service or one year of full-time service during their tenure with the company by October 10, 2019
    • Active employees include the employees of recently acquired companies. Date of service for these employees reflects time served prior to the Corporation’s acquisition of an organization
    • Retired and deceased employees must have been full-time employees with one year of service prior to their retirement or death or part-time employees with either at least two years of part-time service or one year of full-time service during their tenure with the company prior to their retirement or death
      • Only the dependent* children of the deceased retiree are eligible. Children of beneficiaries are only eligible if they are also a dependent* child of the deceased retiree
    • Dependent children of employees who are on layoff status are eligible for two years after the date of layoff, provided that as of the date of layoff (or as of October 10, 2019 if the date of layoff is later), the employee was a full-time employee with at least one-year of employment with the company or a part-time employee with either two years of part-time service or one year of full-time service with the company
  • Students must be in their final year of high school or secondary school
  • Students must enroll in an accredited or bona fide college, university or postsecondary school (domestic or abroad) for the entire school year following high school or secondary school graduation with the intent of earning a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent. All fields of study are eligible
  • The children of former employees who have left the Corporation due to termination or voluntary exit are not eligible
  • Children of the members of the Board of Directors of the Corporation, its Leadership Team (CEO and direct reports of the CEO) and trustees of the TimkenSteel Charitable Fund are ineligible

Award information:

  • Up to three (3) nonrenewable awards of $5,000 each will be granted. These awards are one time only and past recipients may not reapply.
  • One (1) renewable award of $20,000 will be granted. This award may be renewed up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance in a full-time course of study, and continuation of the program by the TimkenSteel Charitable Fund.

Awards are for undergraduate study only and cannot exceed the cost of tuition, fees, room, board, books, supplies and other education-related expenses.

The award checks will be issued in U.S. currency.

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • Statement of educational and career goals
  • An outside appraisal
  • Essay

Financial need is not considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of TimkenSteel Corporation or the TimkenSteel Charitable Fund play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decisions of Scholarship America are final and are not subject to appeal. The scholarship program is competitive; not all applicants will be selected as recipients.

The selection process is not influenced or affected by the actual or perceived race, religion, color, national origin, ancestry, disability, age, gender or sexual orientation of any applicant.

Notification

Applicants will be notified in December. Recipients will be notified directly by TimkenSteel Corporation and receive a follow-up mailing from Scholarship America. Non-recipients will receive an email notification from Scholarship America.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of the TimkenSteel Charitable Fund. A check in USD is made payable to the student’s school and mailed to each recipient’s home address. Awards outside the US and Canada will be paid in one installment via wire transfer.

As part of your application:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades must be uploaded. Grade reports are not accepted. Unofficial or online transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken
  • Also as part of your application, one online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than 3:00 p.m. Central Time on October 10, 2019.
