Making Life Easier Scholarship Program

Toyota proudly announces its 2024 Making Life Easier (MLE) Scholarship Program that will award up to $1 million to college-bound students associated with select community partners. Recipients will be selected from all eligible applicants based on financial need and community service. Students can apply for scholarships of up to $20,000 that will be distributed over four years.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team. 

Applicants of the Making Life Easier Scholarship Program award must be:

  • between the ages of 16 and 26 as of October 31, 2023 and be members, alumni or staff of one of the listed *Non-profit Partners. (volunteers are eligible only if they also meet organization requirements of being members, alumi or staff)
  • high school seniors, graduates, current postsecondary undergraduate, or graduate students
  • have a high school diploma, GED or equivalent degree by September 2024
  • plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate or graduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, professional school or vocational-technical school in the United States for the entire 2024-25 academic year
  • have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent)
  • be in good standing in the community and at school (i.e. not on disciplinary or academic probation)

Employees, vendors, and business partners of Toyota and its parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, promotion and advertising agencies, and members of their immediate family (defined as spouse and parent, children and siblings and their respective spouses, regardless of where they reside) and persons living in the same household, whether or not related, of such employees, are not eligible to apply.

Award Details:

  • if selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award in the ranging from $1,250 to $5,000
  • up to 100 awards will be granted each year
  • awards for undergraduate study may be renewed for up to three additional continuous years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first

Recipients completing their undergraduate degree may renew their awards upon transfer to graduate school as long as enrollment is continuous. Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance in a full-time course of study and continuation of the program by Toyota. Students may receive the award a maximum of four years.

The award must be applied towards undergraduate or graduate school related expenses only at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, professional school or vocational-technical school in the United States.

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • financial need
  • community involvement
  • essay responses

Recipients must demonstrate financial need.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. Toyota and partner organizations will review contact information to confirm eligibility and essays to confirm recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Notification

All applicants will be notified by the end of February 2024. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Toyota. Payments are made in one installment on August 1.

As part of your application, you must upload the following documents:

  1. A Partner Verification Form signed by an administrative or leadership representative from the partner organization with which you are affiliated
  2. A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.
  3. A copy of the 2022 IRS Form 1040 which was used to complete the Financial Information section. Block out all social security numbers. Submit a note of explanation if a 2022 IRS Form 1040 was not filed
