Travelers EDGE Emergency Funding Program

Travelers has established an emergency funding program to assist current undergraduate students participating in the Travelers EDGE Program, and attending one of the eligible two- or four-year colleges or universities at Travelers EDGE campuses in Connecticut and Minnesota.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the Travelers EDGE Emergency Funding Program must:

  • Be a current undergraduate student participating in the Travelers EDGE Scholars program, and attending an accredited two-year or four-year college or university at Travelers EDGE campuses in Connecticut and Minnesota.
  • Must be enrolled in a minimum of nine (9)- credit hours during the academic semester at a two-year college or twelve (12) credit hours during the academic semester at a four-year college or university.
  • Be able to provide a course schedule* to confirm credit hours as of the beginning of the semester
  • Have documentation demonstrating financial need for an eligible expense**. Acceptable documentation includes bills, invoices, and receipts. (There will be a ninety (90) day limitation on when receipts can be reimbursed.)
  • Students must submit the supplemental form available at the Program Website.

*Course schedule must include student name, school name, courses, and credit hours for each course.

**Eligible expenses must have been incurred within ninety (90) days of application submission to be considered for reimbursement. Expenses are for one-time emergency need situations and are not meant to address long standing challenges. Students may select only one eligible expense category on the application. Acceptable documentation for eligible expenses includes bills, invoices, and receipts. Documentation must include student name, third party name, address and phone number, itemized list of expense(s) and total expense.

Eligible expenses include (for student only, not family members):

  • Utilities (shut off notice required)
  • Housing/Rent (eviction notice required; students name must be on the lease/mortgage or proof of residence required)
  • Medical/Dental expenses (elective procedures will not be covered)
  • Personal automobile expenses
  • Child care (overdue balance notice required)
  • Tuition* and fees
  • Public transportation/Bus pass
  • Required course materials (i.e. lab fees, calculators, etc.)
  • Computer for school use (grant limited to $700) per academic year.
  • Temporary displacement costs will also be considered (i.e. homelessness, food insecurity)
  • Books (must show that financial aid refund does not provide enough funds to cover costs of books)
  • Professional designation exams (fees related to exam preparation courses and materials not to exceed $550 in an academic year and up to two exams in an academic year)

* Tuition expenses are for hardships related to paying unmet tuition needs. Funds will not be allocated for courses or tuition expenses outside of regular credit loads (i.e. summer school).

Ineligible expenses include:

  • Food/meals (with the exception of hardships/displacement)
  • Gas
  • Tobacco
  • Alcohol
  • Entertainment expenses
  • Cell phone bills (with the exception of hardships).

In order to complete the process, you must complete the Supplemental Information Form and consult with your Travelers EDGE on-campus Program Manager before submitting.

Request Process
Recipients are eligible to submit two funding requests per academic year (September 1 through August 31) that may total up to $2,000. Recipients are not to receive more than $5,000 during their tenure in the EDGE funding program. Exceptions may be granted given extraneous circumstances or hardships. All funding is contingent on availability of funds for the Travelers EDGE program.
Selection of Recipients and Funding Limits
Eligible students may apply once per cycle. Students may receive up to one emergency grant for a single eligible expense per application cycle and two (2) grants per academic year (from September 1 through August 31) that may total up to $2,000. Recipients are not to receive more than $5,000 during their tenure in the EDGE funding program. Awards will be granted until all available funds have been disbursed (per academic cycle) or the cycle deadline date, whichever occurs first.
Revisions
Travelers reserves the right to review the conditions and procedures of this Emergency Fund and to make changes at any time including termination of the program.
