UPPO Scholarship Program

Unclaimed Property Professionals Organization has established a scholarship program to assist employees and children of employees who plan to continue their education in college, vocational or graduate school programs.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the UPPO Scholarship Program must:

  • Be dependent* children, grandchildren or nieces/nephews, age 25 and under, of full-time employees of Unclaimed Property Professional Organization members who have been named by the member organization as an authorized representative.
    *Dependent children are defined as biological children, stepchildren or legally adopted children living in the employee’s household or primarily supported by the employee.
  • Be regular full-time employees of Unclaimed Property Professional Organization members who have been designated by the member organization as authorized representatives and not eligible for tuition reimbursement by the member organization.
  • Be high school seniors or graduates, or current postsecondary undergraduates or graduate students.
  • Plan to enroll in full-time** post high school studies including undergraduate or graduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university or vocational-technical or graduate school for the entire upcoming academic year.**Employees of Unclaimed Property Professional Organization members may be enrolled part-time (minimum 6 credits).

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $2,000 award. Up to two awards of $2,000 will be granted. Awards may be renewed for up to three additional years, for a maximum total scholarship award not to exceed $8,000, on the basis of satisfactory academic performance. Recipients will be required to provide a short biography and headshot upon award notification.

If the scholarship recipient is the authorized representative of a UPPO member company and his/her employment is terminated either voluntarily or involuntarily, or reduced to less than full-time, the recipient is no longer eligible for renewal. If the recipient changes employment from one UPPO member company to another and maintains membership as an authorized representative of the UPPO member company, he/she may maintain renewal eligibility.

Dependent students may maintain their eligibility for renewal even if their parent or guardian is no longer employed by the UPPO member company.

Awards are for undergraduate and graduate study.

All awards are paid in U.S. dollars.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of career and educational goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation.

Financial need is not considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Unclaimed Property Professional Organization play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in February.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Unclaimed Property Professionals Organization. Payment is made in early August.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than December 20, 2023 3:00 pm Central Time.
