Voya Scholars for Mental Health
Deadline to apply: January 15, 2025 3:00 pm CT

Voya Foundation has established a scholarship program to assist students who plan to continue their education at State University of New York (SUNY) and pursue a degree in Psychology, Social Work, or Psychiatric Nursing.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the Voya Scholars for Mental Health must:

  • Be high school seniors or graduates or current college undergraduates
  • Plan to enroll full-time at an accredited State University of New York (SUNY) system institution for the entire upcoming academic semester
  • Pursuing a degree in one of the following fields:
    • Psychology (B.A. or B.S.)
    • Social Work (B.S.W.)
    • Psychiatric Nursing (BSN)
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent)

Employees and Children of Employees of Voya are ineligible.

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $10,000 award. Up to five (5) awards will be granted.

Awards are not renewable, but students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Awards are for undergraduate study.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in March.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Voya Foundation. Payment is made in April.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • Two short answer essays
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances

Finalists must demonstrate financial need, as calculated by Scholarship America.

Selection of finalists is made by Scholarship America. Voya Foundation and an independent selection committee will then select recipients from the group based on their application. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Not all applicants to the program will be selected as finalists/recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.
