Voya Scholars Program
Application status: Closed

Voya Foundation has established a scholarship program to assist former constituents of Voya Financial Charitable Programs.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the Voya Scholars Program must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Be former constituents of a Voya Financial or Voya Foundation Charitable Program defined as having participated in a Company sponsored program, or be a student nominated by a 2023 State or National Teacher of the Year or 2023 Voya Unsung Heroes® winner.
  • Be high school seniors or graduates or current postsecondary undergraduates or graduate students, or pursuing a financial certification (CFA).
  • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate or graduate study, or financial certification (CFA) at an accredited two or four-year college, university for the entire 2024-25 academic year.

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive $10,000. Up to five (5) awards will be granted.

Award disbursement will be divided equally among the number of years the recipient has remaining in postsecondary education. Awards will continue to be granted on the basis of satisfactory academic performance or until a bachelor’s or master’s degree is earned.

For example, incoming freshmen will receive four (4) payments of $2,500 each. Rising juniors will receive two (2) years’ payments of $5,000 each. Students completing a two-year year program may transfer to a four-year program. Award disbursements for two-year programs will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Award recipients will also be provided the opportunity to receive a mentorship by an employee from Company.

Awards are for undergraduate and graduate study, or financial certification (CFA).

Preference will be given to students pursuing degrees in business administration and finance fields of study.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in May.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Voya Foundation. Payments are made in equal installments in August.

Selection

Scholarship finalists are selected on the basis of:

  • academic record
  • demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • work experience
  • a statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • unusual personal or family circumstances
  • an online recommendation

Essay responses will not be used in the evaluation for finalists. Finalists must demonstrate financial need, as calculated by Scholarship America.

Selection of finalists is made by Scholarship America. Voya Foundation will then select recipients from the group based on their application and essay responses. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Not all applicants to the program will be selected as finalists/recipients.

As part of your application, you must upload the following documents:

  • Current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Unofficial or online transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course, and term in which each course was taken.
  • Copy of the first two pages of the most recently filed IRS Form 1040 used for the Financial Information Page (Please black out SSN).
  • Responses to the following short essay questions:
    1. Where do you see your future self in five years after obtaining your degree? What impact do you hope to make in your community or area of expertise?
    2. Do you think that teams or groups function best when members are similar or diverse? Keep in mind that diversity does not just mean race or ethnicity, but can also mean diverse perspectives and personal backgrounds.
    3. If you have to learn a complex subject or concept quickly, how do you approach it? What is your strategy to learn and retain the information?
    4. If you are managing a team project, how would you approach managing an individual that does not agree with the team’s direction and goals? How would you foster collaboration and lead your team towards success, even when faced with challenges?
    5. How would others describe you, and how does that differ from how you would describe yourself?

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload an official copy of those test scores separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

Also as part of your application, one online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than March 21, 2024 11:59 pm Central Time.

Your application is not considered complete unless all required documents are submitted electronically.
