Selection Criteria and Awards
From the pool of nominated applicants that submit an application, Scholarship America will select ten (10) finalists. Finalists must also demonstrate financial need.
From the ten (10) finalists selected by Scholarship America, Voya Financial and four National Teacher of the Year finalists will solicit video essays answering the question “Why do you want to teach?” The National Teacher of the Year finalists will evaluate scholarship finalists based upon their responses to the video essay and the original two essay questions from the scholarship application. The teacher finalists will select four (4) scholarship recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.
If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $5,000 award. Up to four (4) awards will be granted.
Awards are one-time only and are for undergraduate, graduate, or teacher certification programs.
All applicants will be notified in early May.
