Wakefern Scholarship Program
Deadline to apply: April 1, 2020 3:00 pm CT

Wakefern Food Corporation has established a scholarship program to assist children and grandchildren of employees who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, age, gender, disability, or national origin.

Applicants to the Wakefern Scholarship Program must be:

  • Children or grandchildren of full-time, NON-UNION associates who have a minimum of one year of service as of the application deadline.
  • High school seniors or graduates, or current postsecondary undergraduates, who plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.

Children and grandchildren of Wakefern officers and directors are not eligible.

Award Amounts

One (1) Dean Janeway award in the amount of $6,000, renewable up to three years, will be given to the top-ranking incoming freshman candidate.

One (1) David M. Silverberg Award in the amount of $5,000, renewable up to three years, will be given to the next top-ranking incoming freshman candidate.

One (1) non-renewable Jerome D. Yaguda award in the amount of $3,000 will be given to the next top ranking candidate.

Up to twenty-one (21) $2,000 scholarships will be awarded.

Most scholarships are not renewable; however, recipients are eligible to reapply in subsequent years.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, statement of goals and aspirations, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an outside appraisal. Financial need is not considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Wakefern Food Corporation play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Notification

Applicants will be notified in May. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Wakefern Food Corporation. Payments are made in equal installments in early August and mid December.

To be eligible to receive award checks, the recipient’s parent or grandparent must be actively employed by Wakefern on July 15 and December 1 prior to the checks being issued.

As part of your application, you must upload a current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course, and term in which each course was taken.

Also as part of your application, one online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf.

Your application is not considered complete unless all required documents are submitted electronically.
