The Dick Wood College Scholarship Program

Wawa, Inc. has established a scholarship program to assist associates and their dependent children who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability, or national origin.

Spanish Guidelines

Applicants to the Dick Wood College Scholarship Program must:

  • Be dependent children, age 24 and under, of full-time or part-time Wawa, Inc. associates who have a minimum of one year employment with the company as of the application deadline date
    *Dependent children are defined as biological, step- or legally adopted children living in the associate’s household or primarily supported by the associate

OR

  • Be a Wawa, Inc. part-time or full-time associate, who has a minimum of one year employment with the company as of the application deadline

AND

  • Be high school seniors or graduates or current college undergraduates who plan to enroll in part-time or full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year

Children of Associates Director level and above are ineligible.

Selection of Finalists

Scholarship finalists are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • Statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • Personal Essay*
  • An online recommendation.

*Personal Essay Question (included in application): “Dick Wood was a model servant leader – always putting the needs of others and the organization above his own. The goal of this scholarship program is to help expand your education and future opportunities, so you can then help make the world a better place just as Dick has and continues to do. Tell us how you believe this educational experience will help you to become a better leader, to find your own higher purpose, and to help fulfill the lives of others in whatever field you pursue”.

Financial need, as calculated by Scholarship America, must be demonstrated for the student to receive an award.

SAI will select up to 30 finalists and Sponsor will select recipients based on SAI review and essay questions from each applicant. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $7,500 award.  Up to 10 awards will be granted. Awards may be renewed for up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance (maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale and continued Wawa, Inc. employment).

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in May.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Wawa, Inc. Payment is made in August.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

    NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than January 30, 2024 3:00 pm Central Time.

*Recommenders are individuals who can provide information on your behalf. A recommender cannot be related to you.
