The mission of the We Energies Daughters and Sons Scholarship Program is to provide scholarships to children of active and retired employees to help them defray the costs associated with sending their children to post-secondary educational institutions. Competitive scholarships will be granted to eligible applicants to assist them attend the school of their choice.
This scholarship program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability or national origin.
Applicants to the We Energies Daughters and Sons Scholarship Program must be:
*Dependent children are defined as natural and legally adopted children or stepchildren living in the employee’s household or primarily supported by the active or retired employee.
Potential applicants may be eligible for the We Energies Daughters and Sons Scholarship Program OR the Wisconsin Public Service Foundation Daughters and Sons Scholarship Program.
Dependent children of part-time or full-time active or retired employees of Wisconsin Public Service Corporation, WEC Business Services employees domiciled in WPS service area, Minnesota Energy Resources or Michigan Gas Utilities are NOT eligible for the We Energies Daughters and Sons Scholarship Program. Awards are renewable up to three (3) years for a four-year degree program and one (1) year for a two-year degree and vocational-technical degree or until a degree or certificate is earned, whichever occurs first, on the basis of satisfactory academic performance and the continuation of the program by the sponsor. Renewal students may not decline their award and reapply to the program for a larger award amount. Students who must complete a fifth year of college to earn a bachelor’s degree are eligible for renewal as long as they do not receive the award for more than four years.
Awards are for undergraduate study only.
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, work experience, honors, and demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities. A statement of education and career goals and an outside appraisal are also required.
Financial need will be considered.
After recipients are selected, financial need is assessed to determine the amount of each award. Recipients who do not demonstrate financial need or whose parent(s) choose not to supply the requested financial information will be eligible to receive a minimum award.
Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of the We Energies Foundation become involved in the selection process.
Applicants will be notified mid-April.
Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.
On behalf of the We Energies Foundation, Scholarship America will pay scholarship awards in early-August.
