Wilbur E. Postles Award

PNC Bank, N.A. Trustee of the PNC Bank Delaware (DE) Scholarships offers the Wilbur E. Postles Award for four-year Delaware residents planning to attend an accredited two-year or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school.

This program is administered by Scholarship America┬«, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, age, gender, disability, or national origin.

Applicants to the Wilbur E. Postles Award must be:

  • Residents of Delaware for at least four years prior to applying.
  • High school seniors who plan to enroll in full-time study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.
  • Placed in the top 20% of their classes as of fall semester.
  • Have scored 1120 or higher on SAT.
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent)


The authorized distribution for new and renewal awards is determined by PNC Bank, N.A. Trustee of the PNC Bank Delaware (DE) Scholarships.

Awards are renewable for up to seven years in the complete discretion of the Selection Committee on the basis of satisfactory academic performance (3.0 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent).

Awards may be renewed for undergraduate, graduate and doctoral study.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic performance, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, a statement of educational and career goals and objectives, any unusual personal or family circumstances, and two outside recommendations.

Financial need will be considered. Recipients must demonstrate need based on the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from the Student Aid Report (SAR).

Scholarship America will process the applications for eligibility. Scholarships shall be awarded without regard to race, creed, religion, sex, national origin or similar classifications. Scholarship awards are to be made solely by a Selection Committee which shall have sole and exclusive authority to determine the number of recipients and the amounts of each award consistent with the criteria established by the Trust. The decision of the Selection Committee shall be final and not reviewable by any court, person, firm or entity


All applicants will be notified in late May.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of PNC Bank, N.A. Trustee of the PNC Bank Delaware (DE) Scholarships. Payments are made in early August.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.
    • If SAT test scores are not included on the transcript, you must also upload a copy of your SAT test scores.
  • A copy of your Student Aid Report (SAR) from the FAFSA application for the upcoming academic year. The SAR must include the Expected Family Contribution (EFC).
  • A letter of recommendation from your principal or faculty adviser.
  • A letter from a parent, guardian or close friend substantiating your need for financial assistance.

    NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.
