George G., Elma B., Ruth M. Wimmer Scholarship Fund

PNC Bank Trustee of George G., Elma B., Ruth M. Wimmer Scholarship Fund has established a scholarship program to assist high school seniors attending Huntington North High School, Northside High School, Northrop High School, R. Nelson Snider High School, Southside High School, Wayne High School, or Allen County Juvenile Center in Indiana who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability, or national origin.

Applicants to the George G., Elma B., Ruth M. Wimmer Scholarship Fund must:

  • Be high school seniors attending one of the following high schools: Huntington North High School, Northside High School, Northrop High School, R. Nelson Snider High School, Southside High School, Wayne High School, or Allen County Juvenile Center in Indiana.
  • Be pursuing a degree in one of the following fields of study:
    • Medical (Pre-Medicine)
    • Nursing
    • Sciences*
    • Occupational therapy
    • Engineering – only if related to the fields of science, medicine or nursing
    • Computer science
    • Actuarial science

*Sciences will be reviewed by the committee for eligibility.

  • Plan to enroll in fulltime undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent)

PNC Employees, children of PNC employees or Trust committee members are ineligible.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • Statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation.

Financial need, as calculated by Scholarship America, must be demonstrated for the student to receive an award.

Scholarship America will provide all eligible applicants for each high school and Sponsor Trust committee will select recipients. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Awards

Award amounts are determined by the Sponsor’s committee after an examination of all criteria

Assuming there are qualified applicants, preference will be given to students who intend to pursue
undergraduate study in Indiana at the time of recipient selection. Intended award allocation will be given equally to recipients from Huntington North and Wayne High School assuming there are enough eligible applicants from each school.

Awards may be renewable up to five years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first, on the basis of satisfactory academic performance maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, continued study in an eligible major, and Sponsor’s committee approval.

The amount of aid granted to a student for a school year shall not exceed the amount of annual tuition plus one-half of the estimated cost of room, board, books and miscellaneous required fees.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in May.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of PNC Bank. Payment is made in August.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

    NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.
  • Copy of the first two pages of the most recently filed IRS Form 1040 used for the Financial Information page. (Please black out any sensitive data including Social Security Numbers prior to uploading.)

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than March 7, 2024 4:00 pm Eastern Time.
