YKK Dependent Children Scholarship Program
Application status: Closed

YKK Corporation of America has established a scholarship program to assist children of employees who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability, or national origin.

Applicants to the YKK Dependent Children Scholarship Program must be:

  • Be dependent* children, age 24 and under, as of the application date, of full-time YKK employees who have a minimum of (1) one year of employment with the company as of the application deadline date.
*Dependent children are defined as natural or legally adopted children or stepchildren of employees who work for YKK Corporation of America, YKK (U.S.A.) Inc, or Tape Craft Corporation.
  • High school seniors or graduates, or current postsecondary undergraduates, who plan to enroll in full-time* undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.

*Full-time study is defined as full-time enrollment for the entire upcoming academic year.

Award information:

  • Up to 12 awards may be granted each year, depending on the number of qualified applicants.
  • Six awards of $2,500 may be granted to students attending a four-year college or university.
  • Six awards of $1,500 may be granted to students attending a two-year college or vocational-technical school.

Awards to students attending a four-year college or university may be renewed up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Awards for study at a two-year college or vocational-technical school may be renewed one additional year. Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance in a full-time course of study and continued parental employment at YKK. A two-year college recipient must reapply to the program if transferring to a four-year college.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in April. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of YKK Corporation of America. Payment is made in mid-July. Checks are mailed to each recipient’s home address and are made payable to the school for the student.

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • Honors
  • Statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation

Financial need is not considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of YKK Corporation of America play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

As part of your application, you must upload the following document:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload an official copy of those test scores separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

Also as part of your application, one online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than March 11, 2024 3:00 pm Central Time.
